Cages

Monkeys in cages,

A tale for the ages,

We trade in our freedom for free.

Dreams of what could,

Are crippled by should,

As we drift through our days mindlessly.

We do as we’re told,

And as we grow old,

Our spirit turns hollow and sore.

A chasm has grown,

As we’ve always known,

Life was fine… but could’ve been more.

We had a choice,

Yet ignored the voice,

That begged us to give it a chance.

It whispered, “Fail.

It’s part of the tale–

Even stumbles can turn into dance.”

But when you live in fear,

With doubt ever near,

You’ll never once step out on the floor.

To avoid this error,

We must embrace the terror,

For that’s truly what living is for.
